Rams Volleyball Opens IEAC Play with a Gritty Win Over Chaffey

Victor Valley College Volleyball kicked off their IEAC conference campaign with a dramatic five-set win over Chaffey College, showcasing grit, teamwork, and standout individual performances. The Rams battled through momentum swings to secure a 3-2 victory (25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 15-10), improving their overall record to 3-9 and starting conference play at 1-0.
Strong Start, Gritty Finish
VVC came out strong, taking the first two sets with aggressive offense and solid defense. After dropping the next two sets, the Rams regrouped and surged ahead in the decisive fifth set, outlasting Chaffey 15-10 to seal the win.
Offensive Leaders
Sophomore outside hitter Alexus Rodriguez led the attack with 12 kills and a .280 hitting percentage, contributing 13 total points. Middle blocker Salote Pome'e was a force at the net, adding 9 kills on just 21 attempts (.381), 1 solo block, and 4 block assists for a team-high 14 points.
Freshman Alyssa Reza chipped in 8 kills and 11 digs, while Elissa Otwell added 5 kills and 3 block assists.
Setting the Tempo
Setter Parker Peterson orchestrated the offense with 21 assists and added 13 digs and 3 service aces, showing poise and hustle throughout the match.
Defensive Backbone
Libero Rayleigh Lyon anchored the back row with a team-high 17 digs and added 2 service aces, while Naylanee Glover and Zoey Davis contributed key blocks to slow down Chaffey's attack.
Team Effort
The Rams totaled 44 kills, 75 digs, and 14 block assists in a balanced team performance. Their resilience in the fifth set highlighted their growth and determination as they begin conference play.
