Rams Volleyball Caps Season with Triumphant Home Finale
Victorville, CA
Victor Valley College women's volleyball closed out their 2025 season in memorable fashion, defeating Cerro Coso College in four sets (25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 26-24) on a night dedicated to honoring the program's four outstanding sophomores.
A Night to Remember: Sophomore Recognition
The final home match was more than just a contest—it was a celebration of the careers and contributions of VVC's graduating sophomores: Parker Peterson, Rayleigh Lyon, Elissa Otwell, and Julia Swanson. Each was recognized before the match for their leadership, resilience, and impact on the program. The energy in the gym was palpable as teammates, coaches, families, and fans showed their appreciation for these student-athletes who have helped shape the culture of VVC volleyball.
Coach Peter Ong reflected on the significance of the night:
"Tonight was about honoring our sophomores and everything they've given to this program. Their leadership and heart have set the tone for our younger players. Ending the season with a win at home is a testament to their dedication and the growth of our team. I'm incredibly proud of how we finished and excited for what's ahead."
Finishing Strong
While the season may not have delivered the win-loss record the Rams hoped for, the team demonstrated heart and growth, culminating in a hard-fought victory to close the year. VVC took control early, winning the first two sets with aggressive serving and scrappy defense. After dropping a close third set, the Rams rallied in the fourth, sealing the match with a clutch finish that showcased their determination and teamwork.
Team Effort and Bright Future
The box score tells the story of a balanced team effort: VVC posted 18 aces and 74 digs, with a serve receive rating of 2.07 and an impressive 35 assists. The Rams' ability to outlast Cerro Coso in long rallies and capitalize on key moments was a testament to their preparation and grit.
With the majority of the roster comprised of freshmen, Coach Ong expressed excitement about the program's future:
"Our sophomores set the standard, and our freshmen have embraced the challenge. Tonight was a special way to send our sophomores off and build momentum for next year."
Legacy and Optimism
As the lights dimmed on the 2025 season, the Rams celebrated not just a win, but the legacy of their departing sophomores and the promise of a new era. The final match was a fitting tribute to the hard work and spirit of the team, and a reminder that success is measured in more than just wins—it's found in the bonds formed, the lessons learned, and the pride of representing Victor Valley College.
