VVC Volleyball 2025 Season Preview: Building Chemistry, Building Success
Victor Valley Volleyball Set to Rise Under Coach Ong in 2025
The Victor Valley College Rams Volleyball program is heading into the 2025 season with renewed energy, size, and determination under the leadership of second-year head coach Peter Ong. With a mix of returning talent and a large group of newcomers, the Rams are preparing for an exciting year on the court.
Key Returning Players
Three Rams veterans will be at the heart of the team's efforts this season:
-
Rayleigh Lyon (Libero) – Though still gaining experience, Lyon brings unmatched dedication, hard work, and coachability that anchors the team's defensive efforts.
-
Elissa Otwell (Middle) – Coming off a tremendous offseason of growth, Otwell has proven herself as a dedicated competitor ready to make an impact.
-
Parker Peterson (Setter) – A transfer from Chaffey College, Peterson will be a crucial piece in running the Rams' offense. Known for her work ethic and motivation, she's expected to be a key leader on the floor.
Promising Newcomers
The roster welcomes a strong class of newcomers, many of whom come with size, versatility, and potential to make an immediate difference:
-
Alexus Rodriguez (Setter, Granite HS)
-
Alyssa Reza (Outside Hitter, Hesperia HS)
-
Zoey Davis (Middle, Lucerne HS)
-
Naylanee Glover (Opposite, Vermont HS)
-
Salote Pome'e (Opposite, University Prep)
-
Layla Cheney (Outside Hitter, Silverado HS)
-
Heather Pfeiffe (Defensive Specialist, Hesperia HS)
Team Outlook
With 11 freshmen and 5 sophomores, the Rams are a young squad, but one with height, athleticism, and competitive drive. Blocking is expected to be a key strength, supported by powerful and intelligent hitters. The biggest area of growth will be in chemistry and communication, as many players competed against each other in high school rather than as teammates.
Coach Ong emphasized that this transition has been smooth thanks to the group's strong work ethic and shared commitment. Team goals include winning their first match, defeating a ranked opponent, capturing a conference title, and ultimately earning a trip to the state playoffs.
Excitement for the Season
Coach Ong shared his enthusiasm for what lies ahead:
"I'm excited for all the girls. They put in hard work every day at practice and extra effort during one-on-ones. We haven't had this big of a team in a while, and I can't wait to see us compete against some of the best teams in the state."
Notable Matches and Events
The Rams' schedule features several highlights that fans won't want to miss:
-

-
