VVC Wrestling Stays Undefeated in Conference with 26-16 Victory Over #8 Bakersfield
The #6-ranked Victor Valley College Men's Wrestling team continued its dominant run through the conference with a thrilling 26-16 home victory over #8 Bakersfield College. The Rams now improve to 3-0 in conference duals, showcasing grit, depth, and championship-caliber performances across the board.
The dual opened with a statement win at 125 lbs, where Elias Casas overwhelmed Jorge Mendoza of Bakersfield with a commanding 17-1 technical fall. The momentum continued at 133 lbs as top-ranked Paulo Valdez, wrestling up a weight class, pinned #10 Santana Ugues, electrifying the home crowd.
VVC's middleweights delivered clutch performances in tightly contested bouts. At 141 lbs, #4 Rocky Humphrey edged out #6 Luis Acosta-Tackett in a 6-5 thriller, followed by another nail-biter at 149 lbs where #6 Angel Salgado secured a 6-5 decision over #8 Brendan Ko. Everardo Gonzalez kept the streak alive at 157 lbs with a gritty 2-1 win over Camden Williams.
Chris Guerrero, ranked #2 at 157 lbs but wrestling up at 165, displayed his versatility and dominance with a 10-3 decision over Elijah Guzman. Despite a setback at 174 lbs, where Vicente Tizoc fell to #4 Gio Ruiz by fall, and a tough 12-0 loss at 184 lbs by Dane Holm to HM Tyler Kipp, the Rams held strong.
Daylen Bell sealed the team victory at 197 lbs with a hard-fought 9-8 decision over Isaac Villalobos. In the heavyweight finale, Marcus Ochoa battled valiantly but was pinned by #1-ranked Jonathan Garcia of Bakersfield.
With this win, the Rams remain undefeated in conference action and continue to climb the state rankings. Next up, VVC travels to San Luis Obispo to face #4 Cuesta College in what promises to be another high-stakes showdown.
