Multiple Rams Win All-Conference Awards for IEAC Cross Country Finals
The Victor Valley College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams had a strong showing at the recent Inland Empire Athletic Conference Finals held at their home course. The athletes put in their best efforts and it showed as several team members were recognized with All Conference awards.
Melody Castenada made 2nd team All Conference with a 13th place finish in the women's 5k race with a time 25:19. Aubrey Weiford, a standout on the women's team, also earned a 2nd Team All Conference award for her 14th place finish in the women's 5k race with a time of 25:49.
In addition, Raye Duarte from the men's team also received a 2nd Team All Conference award for his 8th place finish in the men's 4 mile race with a time of 21:53. Duarte's strong finish helped lead the men's team to a 3rd place finish overall in the conference.
The men's team's success at the conference finals has earned them a spot in the upcoming 3C2A Southern California regionals. This is a significant accomplishment for the team and a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
Coach Kevin Barda has been instrumental in the turnaround of the cross country program at Victor Valley College. In just one year, Barda has helped the team overcome past struggles and achieve success at the conference level. His guidance and leadership have been crucial in the team's improvement and success.
Overall, the Victor Valley College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams have much to be proud of following their performances at the Inland Empire Athletic Conference Finals. With talented athletes like Aubrey Weiford and Raye Duarte leading the way, the future looks bright for the program under the direction of Coach Barda.
