Men’s Golf Caps Outstanding Season with 4th place Finish at 3C2A State Championship
The Victor Valley College men's golf team closed out an outstanding 2026 campaign by competing for a state title and finishing fourth overall at the 3C2A Men's State Championship at SilverRock Resort, cementing the season as one of the best in program history.
Facing the strongest field in California community college golf, the Rams proved they belonged on the state stage from the opening tee shot and remained in championship contention throughout the two‑day tournament.
Strong Opening Round Sets the Tone
VVC came out firing on Day 1, posting a team score of 293 (+5) and placing themselves second overall after the first round, firmly in the hunt for a state championship.
The Rams were led by a sensational performance from Cory Rose, who carded a 70 (-2), while Brady McColm matched him with his own 70 (-2). Brady Fonville added a steady 71 (-1), rounding out a trio that kept VVC near the top of the leaderboard against the state's elite programs.
After 18 holes, Victor Valley College had established itself as a legitimate championship threat.
Battling to the Finish on the Final Day
SilverRock presented a tougher challenge on Day 2, but the Rams continued to compete with confidence and grit. VVC posted a second‑round score of 312 (+24), finishing the tournament with a two‑day total of 605 (+29) to earn fourth place statewide.
McColm paced the Rams in the final round with a 74 (+2), while Rose (78), Sullivan Kilkenny (79), and Fonville (81) contributed critical scoring efforts under pressure.
Though the margins tightened over the final round, the Rams stayed resilient and finished the championship among the top programs in California.
All‑State Spotlight: Brady McColm
One of the weekend's biggest highlights came from Brady McColm, who turned in an exceptional two‑day performance to finish fourth overall individually at the State Championship.
McColm posted scores of 70 (-2) in the opening round and 74 (+2) in the final round, showcasing consistency, composure, and elite shot‑making on the biggest stage.
His performance earned him All‑State honors, making history as the first men's golfer in Victor Valley College history to be named an All‑State selection — a remarkable achievement and milestone for the program.
Words from the Coach
Following the conclusion of the championship, the VVC coaching staff reflected on a season defined by preparation, belief, and growth:
"I'm so proud of the entire team this season. We have worked so hard since the summer to put ourselves in position to win a state title, and we were right there. It has been a pleasure to coach my sophomores Cory Rose, Sherman Cline, and Tyler Thomas — they were the catalyst for where the program is today. Huge congratulations to Brady McColm for finishing fourth place individually and being named to the All‑State Team. He is the first VVC player in school history to achieve this honor."
A Season That Raised the Standard
From a dominant regular season to a clutch regional performance and a fourth‑place finish at the State Championship, the Rams delivered a year that will be remembered as a turning point for the program.
Competing for a state title, sitting second after Round 1, and finishing fourth in California speaks volumes about the work, belief, and competitiveness shown by this group.
