VVC Men’s Golf Secures State Championship Berth with Dramatic Finish at 3C2A South Regionals
The Victor Valley College men's golf team authored one of the most thrilling postseason performances in program history on Monday at the 3C2A Men's South Regional Championship at Olivas Links, earning advancement to the 3C2A State Championships with an unforgettable closing stretch.
The championship featured two rounds of competition, with Round 1 played first followed by Round 2, as reflected in the official results. Battling a deep and competitive regional field, the Rams stayed composed throughout the day and put themselves in position to capitalize when the pressure was highest.
Cory Rose Leads the Way
At the top of the leaderboard, Cory Rose delivered a championship‑caliber performance, winning the event and placing third overall among all competitors. Rose's standout showing earned him All‑Regional Team honors, solidifying his place among the region's elite golfers.
Rose carded rounds of 70 (-2) and 74 (+2), providing a steady anchor for the Rams and setting the tone for what would become a defining day for the program.
Clutch Finish Seals State Berth
With the season on the line during the final stretch of the championship, Rose and Brady McColm rose to the moment in spectacular fashion.
Over the final six holes, both Rams caught fire — each shooting four‑under par (-4) down the stretch. The birdie barrage completely shifted the momentum and proved to be the decisive factor in Victor Valley College securing one of the state‑qualifying positions.
The late‑round surge under immense pressure was nothing short of unreal and served as the primary reason the Rams are now headed to the state tournament.
Strong Team Effort
Behind Rose's regional win and McColm's clutch performance, the Rams received valuable contributions across the lineup. Brady McColm finished with rounds of 71 (-1) and 76 (+4), while Brady Fonville added consistent play with scores of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4).
Sherman Cline posted rounds of 81 (+9) and 82 (+10), with Sullivan Kilkenny (82, 86) and Joshua Pierce (82) gaining critical postseason experience. As a team, Victor Valley College finished +29 overall, earning fifth place and clinching advancement to the state level.
State Championship Bound
With the regional hurdle cleared, the Rams now turn their attention to the 3C2A State Championships, set for May 10–11. The trip to state represents a major milestone for the program and a testament to the team's perseverance, confidence, and belief in each other.
If the final holes at regionals were any indication, the Rams won't shy away from the moment when they arrive on the state stage.
