Rams Protect Home Court in 71–67 Victory Over Cerro Coso
January 29, 2026
The Victor Valley College men's basketball team defended their home floor on Wednesday night, battling their way to a 71–67 win over visiting Cerro Coso. The Rams held the lead at halftime and stayed composed in a tightly contested second half, securing a strong non‑conference victory inside the VVC gym.
Rams Set the Tone Early
Victor Valley opened the game with pace and purpose, putting up 36 first‑half points and taking a three‑point lead into the break. The Rams controlled the tempo, attacked the paint, and repeatedly earned high‑percentage looks during the early stretches of the contest.
Balanced Scoring Leads the Way
The Rams' offense fired on all cylinders thanks to a team‑wide scoring effort:
- Komari Lewis paced the Rams with 19 points on 9‑of‑16 shooting, while adding 6 rebounds and 2 assists.
- Quintin Aguilar delivered a huge two‑way performance, recording a 15‑point, 10‑rebound double‑double, plus 4 steals.
- Raoul Churchill knocked down 3 three‑pointers and totaled 15 points with a steal.
- Andre Maycey owned the glass with a game‑high 12 rebounds while scoring 11 points, dishing 4 assists, and grabbing 2 steals.
- Derrick Hankins added 6 points and 4 rebounds in valuable minutes off the bench.
- Jasean Phillips contributed 5 points, 4 rebounds, and a made three.
In total, VVC shot 47.5% from the field and knocked down 5 three‑pointers while spreading the ball for 10 assists.
Defensive Toughness Secures the Win
On the defensive end, the Rams showcased grit and discipline:
- 39 total rebounds, including 13 offensive boards
- 6 blocks and 6 steals
- Multiple key stops in the closing minutes
VVC's active hands and physicality inside disrupted Cerro Coso's rhythm and ensured the Rams stayed in control when the pressure increased late.
Finishing Strong on Their Home Floor
Cerro Coso made a late push, but the Rams held firm in the final possessions. Victor Valley closed out the game with composed ball‑handling, timely rebounding, and the defensive intensity required to protect a close lead.
The 71–67 win marks another strong performance at home for the Rams, who continue to build momentum behind their balanced scoring and rugged defensive identity.
