Rams Take Down No. 2 Copper Mountain in Statement Win, 64–60
The Victor Valley College Men's Basketball team earned one of its biggest victories of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating IEAC-ranked No. 2 Copper Mountain 64–60 at home. The win showcased the Rams' toughness, discipline, and ability to execute under pressure as they protected their home floor against an elite opponent.
Game Recap
Victor Valley set the tone early, putting together one of its strongest opening halves of the year. The Rams exploded for 36 first‑half points, combining aggressive rebounding with efficient scoring to take a 36–23 lead at the break.
In the second half, Copper Mountain mounted a push, trimming the deficit behind improved shooting. But VVC maintained its composure, responding with timely baskets and defensive stops to preserve the advantage. Despite being outscored 37–28 in the second half, the Rams never relinquished control and closed the game strong to secure the 64‑60 upset win.
The Rams' presence on the glass proved decisive, as VVC collected 48 rebounds—including 16 offensive boards—to continuously generate second-chance opportunities and limit the visitors' rhythm.
Stat Leaders
Komari Lewis delivered a standout all‑around performance, scoring a team‑high 20 points on 8‑for‑14 shooting while adding 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal in 31 minutes.
Derrick Hankins anchored the interior with a double‑double, recording 11 points and 12 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards, while shooting 4‑for‑10 from the field.
Jasean Phillips contributed 11 points, 6 rebounds, and a three-pointer, playing with energy on both ends and providing key scoring stretches.
Quintin Aguilar added 8 points and 9 rebounds, helping VVC control the paint and protect possessions throughout the game.
Andre Maycey was highly efficient off the bench, scoring 8 points on 4‑of‑6 shooting, along with 2 rebounds, a block, and 2 steals.
