Bio
Terry Cleveland's journey through football and coaching is a testament to his dedication,
leadership, and love for the game. Born and raised in the vibrant community of San Bernardino,
California, Terry's passion for football ignited during his formative years at Eisenhower High
School. As a player, he was part of the prestigious team that reached the national rankings,
ultimately competing in the finals against Mater Dei.
Transitioning to Rialto High School due to overcrowding at Eisenhower, Terry continued to excel
on the field, leaving an indelible mark by scoring the first-ever touchdown at Rialto High and
leading his team in both touchdowns and rushing yards.
Following his high school career, Terry honed his skills at San Bernardino Valley College under
the guidance of renowned coach Ron Smedley. Starting as a defensive back and special teams
player, Terry's versatility and determination contributed to SBVC's success in the Graffiti Bowl.
Transitioning back to running back the following year, Terry played a pivotal role in SBVC's
consecutive Foothill Conference championships in 1996 and 1997.
After his playing days, Terry Cleveland embarked on a coaching career that has spanned over
two decades, starting with eight years coaching youth football in San Bernardino. In 2017, Terry
joined Sultana High School's coaching staff as the running back coach, a role he filled with
dedication and mentorship for six years before assuming the head coach position in 2022.
Under Terry's leadership, Sultana High School achieved significant milestones, including their
first winning season in six years and their first playoff appearance in five years. Known for his
strategic acumen and commitment to player development, Terry's coaching tenure saw Sultana
lead the league in passing yards for consecutive years, thanks in part to the outstanding
performances of quarterback Jacob Higgs and receivers like LaMason Waller and Corey
Cabrailes, who set records in touchdowns and receiving yards.
Off the field, Terry Cleveland finds fulfillment in his family life in Hesperia with his wife Cheryl,
where they proudly raise their eight children and enjoy the company of seven grandchildren.
Terry has also established himself as a dedicated professional within the Hesperia Unified
School District, where he has served for over 13 years.
Terry Cleveland's story is one of perseverance, passion, and a deep commitment to both the
game of football and the community he serves, leaving an enduring legacy as a coach, mentor,
and family man. This will be Terry’s first year coaching here at VVC
